“I always knew about Jesus. My family took me to church once in awhile. But I lived for myself.
It was in the 8th grade that I went to my first FCA meeting. It was the first time I ever truly listened to someone talk about Jesus. It was intriguing, and I finally understood what being a Christian really means. But, it didn’t turn my life around.
My 9th grade year was not much different than my other years had been. FCA was early in the mornings, so I rarely went. But, God had his hand on me by way of a friend who was on FCA’s leadership team. Mac, my friend, always asked me to come to FCA with him.
Finally, one morning I agreed to go. Little did I know I had a divine appointment with God. This was a special FCA meeting because there wasn’t a speaker. Instead we broke up into groups of 5 and meditated on Bible verses or prayer requests.
My first slip of paper was to pray over something I needed. I had the mouth of a sailor. So I prayed to stop cursing. Just a little thing. But God is in the small things. On my next slip of paper was the verse saying that everything that comes out of our mouths should be for the glory of God. It was right then and there at that early-morning FCA meeting that I first felt God tug at my heart.
This made me want to go to church. This is what eventually drew me to God’s salvation, through His grace. FCA played a huge part of the next four years of my life. It kept me on track with Him. This former sailor’s mouth went on to spreading God’s word, through being on the FCA leadership team. God used FCA to get to me.”
